The definite article, known as the word the, used with both singular and plural
nouns is used for various reasons and in many situations. It is acclimated in
front of a noun when the hearer or reader knows exactly what the speaker is
referring to. It refers to a particular member of a group or class. It could be
something that the speaker is referring back to, or it could also be something that
the speaker wants to specify. This article can also sometimes be used with
proper nouns. The use of the definite article can be divided in 17 cases. These
refer to something which has already been mentioned;
