Taking the time out to writes these journals is what I would say intrigued me to keep doing them. The more interesting the topics got the better I felt explain them. I always thought that the journals were hard and challenging because I wouldn’t know how to start it but this time around I’m on a roll. I tend to work better on things that i have a complete understanding on instead of cramming all the knowledge in in one hour. It’s better to pace yourself so when it comes time to write about a certain topic you will already have a steady flow. That’s my number one insight on myself. My whole thinking processed changed for humanities. Coming into this class I had no knowledge about humanities. I didn’t think that it was so broad and had so much meaning into it until I got into the class. It focuses and goes in depth on the aspects of human society and culture, it even goes deep into religion. My perspective on humanities has indeed broadened because of the simple fact that I came into humanities with an empty head willing to learn the true meaning. What I learned about myself through humanities is to be open with not just others but also to yourself. Humanities is a class where open discussion about anything are acceptable and were often engaged by many students. Gives people who have shells come out of them by discussing topics to our interest or topics that we can relate to on different levels. Critical Thinking.August 22, 2017People who achieve good grades do well because those are the people who actually care to excel in life. In my opinion if you show that you have good grades then you are obviously doing what you need to do. When you do your homework in a timely manner, seek help and study study study then you should have no worries. Allow this to be a routine, you have to have a mind for it. You can achieve anything you put your mind to. What are the Humanities?August 24, 2017(Out of class)That is a good question. The first day of humanities class caught be by surprise because I was able to interrogate my mind by asking myself questions I sort of knew the answer to but wanted to be one hundred percent honest with myself and open to the class. As classes began to pass I realized that this class is a mind explorer. Humanities to me, is a field of study that explores questions of what it is to be an human. We are humans, we all have different way we live life rather is is religiously, your appearance, your choice of music and the people you interact with. Everyday we wake up is another day to be exactly what you are and who you are, which is a human. Why study Humanities?August 29. 2017(Out of class)Studying humanities can indeed change the way you perceive life. Studying humanities will add many sprinkles of humbleness to your life, Study humanities allows you to view different interpretations of life and history. You’ll start to understand the cause and effect of a problem from a different point of view. Studying humanities will allow people from all over the nation to communicate and understand their common relations to the past but present differences. Just being in a humanities class for the first time has already opened my mind up for my future. I often ask myself questions that I would never think of and I ask myself “where is this coming from”. Humanities gives you a broad focus to explore your mind in depth.Critical ThinkingSeptember 5, 2017(Out of class)How can critical thinking improve our lives? Critical thinking can improve lives in so many ways. So many people in this world have a different way of life they live by rather they have a strong belief or not everyone thinks differently. Critical thinking is any subject, content or problem in which the thinker improves the quality if his or hers thinking by observing, assessing, and reconstructing it. Critical thinking is self work. It is self directed, self disciplined, self monitoring and self corrective. Critical thinking can improve a life by making a change in itselfs to improve for greater outcomes. JDemocratic SocietySeptember 12, 2017(Out of class)Based on your experience, how do people in your family, workplace, classroom(s) handle controversial topics and disagreement? Are opinions that challenge the common sense of that group respectfully listened to? People in my family handle a controversial topic with respect, when it comes to controversial topics it is very important you are careful of your tone of voice, of you word a certain sentence and not pointing fingers and judging though a sex or race because things can escalate rapidly if you are not mindful of your actions. In a public area such as your job or at school some people might not care of what they say and how they say it. Yes some things are opinionated and you have the freedom of speech but not everyone will feel comfortable of things you might. You have to keep in mind that everyone is not like you. Now a days when I sit in a class and a student is elaborating on a topics they feel strongly about, they are respectfully listened to. The Divine CreatorOctober 5, 2017(In class)He created all life and gave… Is our God in the same sense that he is responsible for giving us life? Off of the head, Jesus specifically, the framed picture that hangs in my parents home is part of my conceptual framework because it’s not my understanding today but the influence is too strong with quick thought. Myths We Live ByOctober 12, 2017(Out of Class)”If you travel far enough, you’ll eventually meet yourself.” What this quote means to me is keep going, never give up because your time is coming, your goals will be reached. Often, young adults and even adults are discouraged and give up completely for whatever reason. People do not understand that most things in life are temporary, you get through things and move on. Never stop, keep going and indeed, in the end you will find yourself sooner than later. “Lies are what the world lives on, and those who can face the challenge of a truth and build their lives to accord are finally not many, but the very few.” If you were to ask me if the world we live in is based off lies, or if the majority of people in this world lie to either cover themselves up, loosen tension I would say yes. We all lie, even if it’s a joke. People who finally face their truths and live their life for the better are not too many but just few. Life doesn’t always have to be based off a lie, the truth will set you free.October 19, 2017Creation of PatriarchyWhat I found most interesting about Gerda Lerner’s book was how throughout the chapters she constructs a historical framework for understanding why women in the twenty first century stills fought to liberate themselves from male servitude and men who were strongly prejudiced against women. She thoroughly takes us on an adventure through the history starting with the second millennium B.C. This topic had to be address and Lerner made a persuasive case for women’s reproductive capacities and economics as being a central to the rise of male power, female subordination and dominance hierarchies as a system of better organize society. Leaner reveals that it was women’s reproductive capacity that men wanted to have some sort of control for economical reasons. The struggle to control nature through agriculture created a shift toward patriarchy. Children because an asset and they were used to till the soil and shepherd the herds. Lerner explains that during the hunting and gathering days of early civilization reproductive differences between men and women created a division of labor for it follows that women would choose or prefer those economic activities which could be combined easily with mothering duties.I could not imagine living like this, men treating women and children like this is a disgrace. The looked down upon women, they showed no respect for expecting mother, mothers and better yet women period. There was no respect. “The effect on men has been very bad, too, of the omission of women’s history, because men have been given the impression that they’re much more important in the world than they actually are. It has fostered illusions of grandeur in every man that are unwarranted. If you can think as a man that everything great in the world and its civilization was created by men, then naturally you have to look down on women. And naturally, you have to have different aspirations for your sons and for your daughters.”Everything that explains the world has in fact explained a world that does not exist, a world in which men are at the center of the human enterprise and women are at the margin ‘helping’ them. Such a world does not exist never has.” -Gerda Lerner.Means and Ends(In class)I feel as if anything, the only thing I’m good at is contemplating ends at this point in life. I’m always stressed wondering what i’m going to do next and how it’s going to get done. Or instance, I’ve been in college for one and a half year now and I’m still deciding what I truly want to be. When dilemmas like this occur you have to think fast, keeping in mind that you don’t have all the time in the world and your career classes start soon. I’ve been sitting in some of my classes not really understanding what’s going on. Often times you see people spend time in classes, and getting a degree but they never take the time to sit down and ask themselves why. Tuesday, October 31.What stands out about the religious views of the ancients? What stands out about greek religion is that it is not the same as greek mythology which is based off of traditional tales even though they are similar. Greek religion lasted for about more than a thousand years.Ancient Greeks would practice their religion in many ways. They would tell stories by writing them down, perform rituals and even make sacrifices. Their religion was used to help the world around them.Tuesday, November 14.Does this story relate to contemporary stories you know of? The story is a tale about a God who is young who was not granted a place of honor as a deity by his family and the royal house of Cadmus. Semale which was his mother was having and affair with Zeus. While having that affair she was pregnant and also killed by Zeus wife who was jealous of her husband’s affair. This story’s does indeed remind me of a few stories I know things like this doesn’t only happen in fairytales, books or movies but it even happens in real life. It’s sad to say but men and women are involved in situation like that all over the world.Socratic MethodNovember 16, 2017The Socratic Method is a form of cooperative arguments dialogue between different people. It is based off of question that are being asked to enhance your critical thinking. It always creates ideas. It is a method hta emphasises dialogue involving discussion in point of views are often questioned. The significance of socratic is that it helps develop a simple understanding about things that are complex. Once we know that basics we can soon start to develop and get a hold onto ideas,MeditationsNovember 21, 2017Marcus held on to one of the most powerful positions in the world. Marcus was a Emperor of an empire, who proved himself worthy of the position that he was in. Many people looked up to him as a role model, a leader and even a higher achiever. Marcus was governed by absolute power, under the guidance of wisdom and virtue, which is what separates him from the majority of the leaders in our past and present world. When I think of the diary Marcus left behind called Meditations, I realize that Marcus gathered his powerful thoughts to present them to the world to more wiser, more virtuous and more immune to temptation. As a leader of one of the most powerful empire in human history, Marcus meditations provided framework for dealing with daily life stresses which was focused on self restraint, duty and respect for other. One of my favorite quotes by him was “When you need encouragement, think of the qualities the people around you have: this one’s energy, that one’s modesty, another’s generosity, and so on. Nothing is as encouraging as when virtues are visibly embodied in the people around us, when we’re practically showered with them. It’s good to keep this in mind.”November 28, 2017Justin Martyrs ChristianityJustin Martyr offers a first-hand account of what it was like to be a Christian when tradition, popular opinion, and power all stood in opposition to the religion. Martyr also offers a unique perspective into how some early Christians understood their religion and the legacy of Jesus. Some people aren’t as brave as he was. People looked up to his and was glad that he offered his unique perspective on how to understand their religion better. He was an early christian apologist.Lost ChristianitiesThursday, November 30My favorite quotes that are by Ehram is “One of the most amazing and perplexing features of mainstream Christianity is that seminarians who learn the historical-critical method in their Bible classes appear to forget all about it when it comes time for them to be pastors. They are taught critical approaches to Scripture, they learn about the discrepancies and contradictions, they discover all sorts of historical errors and mistakes, they come to realize that it is difficult to know whether Moses existed or what Jesus actually said and did, they find that there are other books that were at one time considered canonical but that ultimately did not become part of Scripture that in fact we have the original copies of any of the biblical books but only copies made centuries later, all of which have been altered. They learn all of this, and yet when they enter church ministry they appear to put it back on the shelf. For reasons I will explore in the conclusion, pastors are, as a rule, reluctant to teach what they learned about the Bible in seminary.” My second favorite isczConclusionTaking the time out to writes these journals is what I would say intrigued me to keep doing them.
