1st argument-procreationFirst, people say that same sex marriage is not a real marriage that it lacks procreation. From my point of view, procreation is not a categorical imperative of marriage.?10?”Marriage has always been a covenant between a man and a woman which is by its nature ordered toward the procreation and education of children….”(TFP Student Action, 2015)Some people argue that same-sex relationships can not produce children and they think the marriage of this kind of couples is not an integrated families.?5? However, law “contains no requirement that the applicants for a marriage license attest to their ability or intention to conceive children by coitus. Fertility is not a condition of marriage, nor is it grounds for divorce.” (Chief Justice Marshall, Massachusetts Supreme Court, Goodridge vs. Department of Public Health). Marriage does not imply that we need to have children. Moreover, some people are sterile and this is the permanent factor that hinders procreation. Despite the above involuntary situation, heterosexual people nowadays do not want to have child after they get married, they enjoy the world of two. So, they will not procreate children. According to this argument, Should these people’s marriage be forbidden? If people who do not want to have children have the right to marry each other, then why same sex marriage cannot. Actually,it is not a universal law that if we get married then we need to have child. Most people marry each other just for love and their objective is not procreating children. Like the wedding vow says marriage is a promise to respect, to have he/she from the days forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer in sickness and in health for as long as they both live (Callaway, 2017). Therefore, procreation is not a categorical imperative of marriage. However, if same sex couples really want to have children to create an integrated family, they can adopt children from orphanage. ?10?Some may argue that child’s best desire is that he can be raised by his natural father and mother (TFP Student Action, 2015). Traditional marriage advocates are often defended that children are better if they are raised by their biological parents(Pratt, 2012). Nevertheless, analyses reveal that”children raised by same-sex parents are as healthy as children who are raised by heterosexual parents.”(Crowl, 2007). Another survey suggests that adolescents who have been raised by lesbian families are having well psychological condition (Gartrell & Bos, 2010). Also, (9)same sex couples are making commitments of love and faithfulness to each other just like the heterosexual couples do, and will provide a secure and stable care for the children(Smith, 2017). These all show same homosexual family is just like heterosexual family, they vorh can raise children with love. Therefore, we can see that same sex couples can create an integrated family and not producing children is not a reason for objecting the legalisation of same sex marriage.2nd argument- Bible standardSecond, some stakeholders think same sex marriage is violating the biblical standard of  marriage.?3?”Many who deem same-sex marriage to be wrong reach that conclusion based on decent and honorable religious or philosophical premises,” acknowledges Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the majority in Obergefell v. Hodges (2015)Same sex marriage is opposed for religious reason as it does not follow what the Bible advocates. Some people say that same sex marriage does not have God’s approval. (11)They state that the God only approves marriage that is the union of one man and woman. If we think deeply, religious objections to same sex marriage are not rooted in the Bible, those people who oppose same sex marriage is just because of religious reason that based on their own custom and tradition(Miller, 2008).  Moreover, we will not always obey what the Bible stated. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. said, (11)”The arc of history is long, but it bends toward justice.” Take the endorsement of slavery and the acceptance of polygamy in Bibles as examples, these are practice that Americans now specifically think shameful, uncivilized and will not allow. “A mature view of scriptural authority requires us, as we have in the past, to move beyond literalism.” The Bible was written for a world that unlike the world we have now, it’s a virtual world and it is impossible to apply its rules to ours(Miller, 2008) . We have to bear in mind that a lot of heterosexual marriages do not meet biblical standards. Besides, our society is supposed to be a community that is guided by citizens instead of religion. The legislation of any strategies could not influence by what the religious people believe. So even if religious people only follow their marriage’s tradition, which is a reason that they object same-sex marriages. But it doesn’t mean that it offers a reason for the government to have other reasons for authorizing same sex marriage for governmental purposes. So, religious factor is not a just factor that oppose same sex marriage. As a result, we cannot take the Bible as a marriage manual, but we can refer it for universal truths to strive for a more just future. Yet, the Bible conveys inspiration and warning of love, marriage and family. And it states the crucial role of families in a fair society. If we refer to the Bible, it may be more just to support same sex marriage.3rd argument- fairness and community healthLastly, same sex marriage should be accepted as a matter of fairness and as a measure that promotes health to our community.?3?Justice Anthony M. Kennedy wrote “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were.”(Kennedy, 2015). Marriage is a basic human right and an individual personal choice. All people have right to choose who they want to marry. Therefore, the government cannot obstruct same-gender couples who choose to marry and spend their entire life together. Marriage give them a recognition of their love. It’s not simply about dating each other. It is an important meaning that they have commitment to spend their lives with each other. ?1?Besides, marriage is an institution that about stability and lifelong relationships, which we know promote health, reduce the risk of diseases, and advance healthy families(Campion, Morrissey & Drazen, 2015). As when we get sick, chronic or severe disease, our family is the most supportive one and provide endless care. We will always rely on family. Homosexual people have the right to organize a family, although the “marriage” certification only has the nominal value, it means a recognition of same sex couples. Nowadays, two people who are in love with each other are getting together, no matter it is legal or not. They enjoy their freedom of love.  But their committed love does not gain any support from the government. How many same sex couples have risked in order to be with their loved one? Being discriminated by friends or objected by family? The challenges of same sex couples encountered are numerous. A person can be rejected the right to visit their illness partner in the hospital. Even when their partner died, they do not have the right to inherit the dead partner’s properties like the house that they have lived together for decades.?6? Also, they are usually denied family rates for health and other types of insurance, and they can even be denied the right to visit their partner in jail. Same-sex couples are also denied visas for a foreign spouse, and in many cases they are denied the right to adopt children together(Maza, 2013). We can see that if there is no recognition of same sex marriage, they can not enjoy the basic rights that other couples have. All this is quite unjust and unfair, they do not have the same rights like heterosexual couples do. Lastly, same sex couples do not cause harm to our community. On the contrary, it brings benefits to our society. Research shows that in countries and jurisdictions that have legalised same-sex marriage, there is a much smaller gap between the rates of poor mental health among same-sex attracted and heterosexual people (Middleton, 2017). It is beneficial to the community that there is fewer discrimination between heterosexual and homosexual people. These show that same sex marriage actually brings harmony and health to the society.
